Hey, I would like to upgrade the hard drive in my MacBook pro 15' from 500gb to 1tb can I by a hard drive that big from apple and have them install it if so how much would it cost. Hdr program for mac. For this how-to, we replaced the hard drive on a 15-inch MacBook Pro (non-Retina) from 2012 with a 480GB Mercury Extreme Pro 6G SSD from OWC, which costs $579. That works out to about $1.21 per GB.

The issue is not one of weight but an issue with the systems cooling and an opening which objects could enter. For a few grams of weight I don’t think its worth it! It struck me as more obvious to put there spinning disk where a spinning disk was designed to go, and the SSD where there wasn't provision for a disk spinning 100% of the time. And why did you choose to set it up as a Fusion drive? I assume you gain a bit of speed compared to the HDD, but lose some compared to the SSD. Is the data striped across both disks?

Remove the screws holding the AirPort/Bluetooth bracket into place, then remove the AirPort/Bluetooth bracket itself, then disconnect the right speaker/subwoofer cable from the logic board before disconnecting the hard drive and optical drive cables from the logic board. Gently lift the optical drive out of the MacBook Pro’s case, then be sure to disconnect the optical drive cable, two small black Phillips head screws and the small metal mounting bracket from the optical drive. Transfer these parts over to the new drive enclosure.
