Historical RTS with base building like AoE are my favourites. You have a lot of the same type RTS in modern day/sci fi settings: starcraft, C&C, but they are not as good for me. And then there is games like the Total War series.

Starcraft is nothing like Age of Empires, so I don't even know why that name is being mentioned here. I would definitely like to see some more real-time civilization type games.

Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War is definitely one my favourite strategy experiences, although it steps outside some of the core RTS features and might not appeal to everyone.
